Hello Flat Cappers!

Please find below final details for race night on Wednesday August 2nd 2017, hopefully we will see you wearing your Flat Cap. If you cannot take part for whatever reason please can you let us know at Last year we had a large amount of food wasted because some people didnt manage to get to the race due to holidays, injuries, unavailability, etc. and didnt tell us. If you have already let us know, then many thanks.

Venue location: Leggers Inn, 66 Mill St E, Dewsbury, WF12 9BD.

Parking: Runners will NOT be allowed to park at the Leggers. For 2017 we have arranged with a number of local businesses to use their car parks, watch out for our parking marshals on the roads leading up to the venue who will assist you. Once these spaces have been filled, please can you park in the adjacent side streets.

England Athletics affiliation checks: Of the 300 online entries, there were 70+ of you who neglected to provide details of your EA registration numbers. An email was sent out recently requesting these and whilst we have had some replies there are still quite a number who havent confirmed affiliation. If you are one of these people, either you made a mistake at entry by selecting the wrong box (apart from the one person who said his number was A123456) or if you dont provide the details and proof (using your EA registration card) when you pick up your race number, then we will be asking you for the additional £2. As part of the race permitting process we have to send £2 to EA for each non-affiliated runner and EA may ask for details of all registered entrants. You can check your number, but all registered athletes will have been sent a registration card for the current season.

Race HQ: at the Leggers, opens at 17.30 and closes at 18.50 for pre-registered number pick up. NO ON THE NIGHT ENTRIES ARE AVAILABLE.

Bag Drop: Available at Race HQ Note all bags are left at owners risk. Please dont leave your phone or wallets/purses in your bag as this is not 100% secure. Luggage labels will be available for you to write on your race number and attach to your bag.

Race starts: at 7pm preceded by the customary pre-run safety briefing. The start is on the greenway over the river Calder, around a 5 minute walk from the Leggers. The 5 mile route follows the greenway towards Ossett before diverting onto footpaths. There is a short section through the Kerry Foods factory before crossing the river via footbridge then across to pick up the canal towpath. There is a then a section from over the canal bridge with a short climb on farm tracks before descending, finally re-joining the canal back to the finish. Signs/marshals will be in place to direct you. Finish is at the Leggers.

Route map . Trail shoes are recommended as there may be some sections with mud if there is rain in the forecast for the next few days.

Dogs: Running with dogs will not be permitted unfortunately.

Photography: A number of volunteers are providing photo posing opportunities at various positions around the course, please make sure you have your race-face engaged at all times!

Music Headphones: No headphones will be allowed to be worn, competitors must be able to hear instructions from marshals at all times.

Medical issues/injury: if you feel unwell whilst running or have an injury and cannot continue please report to the nearest marshal who will know what to do. We do have a couple of trained nurses with some first aid equipment at marshal positions, one of these will follow as a sweeper. A defibrillator is to be located at the finish which were hoping wont be required.

Team Prize: To qualify for a team prize (M/F 1,2,3 highest club placing) you must finish the race wearing your flat cap.

Sports Massage: We will have this complementary professional service on site provided by Amy OConnor, DRR member, if you would like to leave a donation after receiving a massage please do so.

Food: A complementary meal of pie n pies/vegetarian is provided after the race at the Leggers by showing your race number at the food counter. If you do not have your number then no food will be given, sorry. We have been in contact with a few people who have indicated food allergy/dietary issues and have expressed a preference for alternative food choices; please can you make yourself known to the events team when you pick up your number.

Drinks: To celebrate Yorkshire Day there will be Yorkshire beers available from local breweries; there will be an outdoor bar which should hopefully prevent any queues within the main bar area. Soft drinks will also be available from the caf onsite.

Prize giving: will commence after the raffle draw has taken place starting at 8.30pm; the raffle has AMAZING prizes we recommend you stay around for this. Raffle tickets are £1 strip and will be sold both pre/post race.

Best Flat Cap: we will be judging this after the race has been completed, just prior to prize giving.

Our race number sponsor Up&Running have provided some discount vouchers here

All race proceeds will be donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We will be providing collection buckets at the Leggers for any donations you might wish to make, along with some fund raising promotional merchandise.

We hope you enjoy the race, if you have any questions on the night please look out for our core team volunteers who will be able to help with anything you might need.

If you can provide feedback, positive or negative or have got any questions, please send via or our facebook or twitter

Good luck!
